8vo (195 x 125 mm). Half-title, engraved vignette on title-page; engraved folding map. (Some offsetting to map, small split to a fold.) Modern half calf antique, marbled boards, preserving original blanks. Provenance: John (?) Hudson (contemporary ownership signature).
FIRST EDITION of the work which secured Boswell's place in London's literary and political circles. The map is in the second state with the imprint, but without the scale or degrees present, as seen in later copies. E2 and Z3 are cancels; D2 is uncorrected.
