13 Socket Bayonets, Mostly US M1855 for .58 Caliber Rifle Muskets
American Civil War
Group of socket bayonets includes the following:
(1) US M1795 Type .69 caliberSocket Bayonet with a nominally 15" unfullered blade and 2.75" socket cut with a "Z" three step friction fit mortise cut for a top lug, made without a bridge. Unmarked with major flaws and cracks in the top of the socket, scattered pitting and cleaned aggressively.
(1) US Model 1835 .69 caliber Replacement Socket Bayonet with the blade shortened to 15.5" from 18" for use on cadet altered US M1847 musketoons. 2.6" socket with locking ring mortised for a bottom lug. Blade marked "US". Bayonet cleaned to bright with some pitting.
(5) US Model 1855 .58 caliber Socket Bayonets with nominally 18" blades, 3" sockets and locking rings, mortised for a top stud. All "US" marked on the blade. Two with small "A" sub-inspections on the socket. All at least lightly cleaned with scattered surface oxidation and some small areas of surface rust.
(4) US Model 1855 .58 caliber Socket Bayonets with nominally 18" blades, 3" sockets and locking rings, mortised for a top stud. All "US" marked on the blade. All with thick brown patinas and moderate to heavy surface rust.
(1) US Model 1855 .58 caliber Socket Bayonet with a nominally 18" blade, 3" socket and locking ring, mortised for a top stud. "US" marked on the blade. With an applied modern blue finish and some scattered minor pitting.
(1) US Model 1855 .58 caliber Socket Bayonet with a nominally 18" blade, 3" socket, missing the locking ring, mortised for a top stud. "US" marked on the blade. With scattered surface rust and some scattered minor pitting.
