L.W. Pond Belt Revolver with Smith & Wesson Patent Infringement Rollmark
American Civil War
.32 Rimfire. 5" barrel length. SN: 4723. Blued and casehardened finish with iron frame mounting varnished walnut grips with replaced brass front blade and topstrap rear notch sights. Single action six-shot tip-up revolver with octagonal barrel. Top of the barrel struck with the single line L.W. POND WORCESTER MASS. PAT'D JULY 10 1860. Upper left barrel flat additionally marked MANUF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT'D APRIL 5, 1855, indicating it to be one of the 4,486 examples Smith & Wesson won in their lawsuit against Pond. Item is missing the screwdriver from butt, with an additional port cut for mounting a lanyard loop that has been dismounted. Serial numbers match on barrel, cylinder, frame, and cylinder pin, with the final digit on the frame bored through for lanyard loop. {ANTIQUE}
