Lot Description

White Buff Bladric with Breast Plate, Scabbard & Socket Bayonet
American Civil War

White Buff Baldric, potentially identified as the Pattern of 1839 by Robert Rielly, but some controversy exists regarding the actual pattern designation. Cross belt with fixed frog, standing loop with length adjustments achieved via the three-hook Eagle breast that is attached. Nominally about 56" in overall length and 2" wide. Includes a "Pattern 1839" (Reilly) bayonet scabbard with brass throat and hook, leather body and brass drag. Scabbard includes a US Model 1855 socket bayonet marked US with an 18" blade. Reverse of baldric is marked in period ink and a period hand: W.W.H. Co G. No 11. Reverse is also ink stamped with an illegible maker's mark and G21.

From the Lifetime Collection of Robert G. Paulsen
