US Pattern of 1861 J.B. Thaxter Contract Cartridge Box with Box Plate, Sling, Breast Plate and a Cap Pouch
American Civil War

Pattern of 1861 for Elongated Round Ball Cartridge Box measuring nominally 8.125"x5.5"x1.75". Maker marked on inner flap. Includes the oval US box plate, cartridge box belt (sling) and Eagle Breast Plate that complete the components for Union cartridge box of this era. Tin magazines are present inside the box, with one missing the dividers and filled with leather blanks to help it keep its shape and the other upside down. Both tins are stuck in place. Also included is an E METZGER contract cap pouch with the wool intact but missing the pick. Maker marked and inspected on the inner flap.
