Lot Description
Group of Seven Civil War through WWII US Military Slings
Civil War through WWII
1) US M1907 Sling of tan leather with brass furniture, marked MILSCO/1944. About Good with a repaired break in the sling through two adjustment holes.
2) US M1907 Sling of dark brown leather with brass furniture. No markings noted. About Fair to Good with moderate wear and crazing.
3) US Indian War era accouterment sling, apparently made from a Civil War era musket sling. Brown leather, brass fittings. A partial maker mark appears to read SMITH. About Fair to Good overall with moderate wear and flaked loss.
4) US Civil War Era Pattern 1857 Sling. Maker marked by Watervliet Arsenal. Nominally 62" in overall length, this appears to be a Civil War period "replacement sling" for US Model 1816/22/28 muskets in use during that period as it is too long for the M1855 and M1861-64 Rifle Muskets. The sling is not a pieced like an early Indian Wars era Trapdoor sling, but made from a single piece of leather.
5) US Civil War Era Pattern 1857 Sling. No legible maker's mark. Nominally 49" in overall length, likely due to stretching as the regulation length was nominally 46". Dark brown leather with brass fittings. In about Fair condition and well worn.
6) Early Indian War Trapdoor Sling made from two pieced US Civil War Era Pattern 1857 Slings. Maker mark at the splice is mostly covered, visible Ordnance inspection mark. Nominally 64" in overall length. About Fair overall with moderate wear, crazing and finish loss and the hook set very deeply in the end of the sling. Standing loop at end of sling is missing.
7) US Pattern 1887 Trapdoor and early Krag Rifle Sling. Two piece spliced construction with brass mountings and dual claw adjustment hook. Nominally 64" in overall length. About Good overall, dry and with finish loss and fading to the die, showing moderate wear.
