Lot Description
Spanish Navaja Attributed to Theodore Roosevelt
6.5" blade length. 14.25" with hilt unfolded. 7.75" folded. Single edge drop point folding Navaja pattern knife featuring bolsters decorated with brass, horn, and bone, and with all components retained by brass tacks. Bone inserts are lightly carved with floral designs. Left hilt mounts a German Silver decoration to the horn. Left blade shows an illegible maker marking with the letters VOIR struck into it.
This knife was kept among the possessions of former presidents preserved at the historic James Monroe house, and comes with a label reading Spanish clasp knife c. 1730/commonly used in Spanish Main by pirates/once owned by Theodore Roosevelt. No further provenance available for this item.
