Schuyler, Hartley & Graham French "Cente Guard" Pattern Cavalry Officers Saber
American Civil War

37.25" straight spear point blade with dual full-length, unstopped fullers. Blade width at ricasso 1.25". 44" in overall length with a 6.5" hilt with a large gilt cast brass guard with three branches and a knuckle bow and a {Spread-Winged American Eagle} in the face of the guard. Grooved wooden grip is uncovered with 17 wraps of twisted wire. Script markings on spine in French indicate the saber was made at the Chatellerault armory in 1856 and the blade is of the 1855 pattern. Ricasso with Chatellerault inspection markings on the obverse. Includes a steel scabbard with two suspension rings.
