Lot Description

Tiffany Retailer Marked Imported US Model 1850 Foot Officers Sword with German Silver Scabbard
American Civil War

32" single edged spear point blade with a 21.75" stopped median fuller. Blade is 1" wide at ricasso. Overall length 38". 6" hilt with cast brass guard and grooved wooden grip with shagreen covering and 14 wraps of twisted wire. Blade etched TIFFANY/& Co/NEW YORK in a panel above the ricasso on the reverse of the blade. Blade decorated with acid etched foliate, marital and patriotic themes, with a large US in the central panel on the reverse and a panoply of arms in the central panel on the obverse. Face of guard marked with the bench number 239. No throat washer is present. The sword is accompanied by a German silver scabbard with no throat that is engraved with foliate, patriotic and martial themes.
