Lot Description

Remington New Model Army Revolver
American Civil War

.44 caliber. 8" octagonal barrel. SN: 66984. Blued finish, color casehardened hammer, brass triggerguard, two-piece smooth oil finish walnut grips. Single action percussion revolver with un-fluted six-chambered cylinder, frame groove rear sight and pinched blade front sight. Standard New Model three-line barrel address and patent information. Matching serial numbers stamped on left of frame under grip, under barrel and in weak pencil inside grips. As is typical of New Model Army revolvers, the cylinder is not numbered. Sub-inspected throughout, left grip with with a crisp script BH cartouche for civilian sub-inspector Benjamin Hannis who inspected many Remington contract arms during the American Civil War. A search of the Springfield Research serial number books did not find this gun, however the closest ones were #66953 which was issued to the 16th Mounted Independent Infantry and #67007 which was issued to A company of the 13th Missouri Cavalry. A nice, crisp example of the second most used handgun of the American Civil War, with some nice original finish remaining. {ANTIQUE}
