Lot Description

Fine Arsenal Converted US Model 1828 (1816 Type III) Musket by Pomeroy
American Civil War

.69 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained bands. NSN. Bright finish, color casehardened lock, iron furniture, fun length walnut musket stock. Single shot percussion altered smoothbore musket with no rear sight, brass blade front sight, sling swivels and full-length button head ramrod. Lock marked with a {Spead-Winged Eagle}/L POMEROY forward of the hammer and in two lines at the tail 1833/US. Matching 1833 date on the tang. Breech with US/JM/P inspection marks and a small upside down LS on the left barrel flat. Counterpane with the crisp script LS cartocuhe of arsenal sub-inspector Luther Sage. A block LS in an oval is also present behind the triggerguard. Stock comb with the reassembly mating mark G 20 and the script DT cartouche of arsenal sub-inspector Daniel Tyler. The location and style of the alphanumeric reassembly mark has been attributed to Watervliet Arsenal, where more than 73,000 US Muskets were altered from flint to percussion between 1849 and 1851. A fine condition example. {ANTIQUE}
