Arsenal Altered US Model 1828 (1816 Type III) Musket by Springfield
American Civil War
.69 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring-retained barrel bands. NSN. Bright finish, color casehardened lock, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot percussion altered muzzleloading musket with no rear sight, brass blade front sight, sling swivels, socket bayonet lug and button head ramrod. Lock marked with a {Spread-Winged Eagle}/U.S. forward of the hammer and in three lines at the tail SPRING/FIELD/1837. Tang with matching 1837 date, breech with standard P/{Eagle Head}/V proof marks. Counterpane with two crisp script cartouches, the ET of Elisha Toby and the TW of Thomas Warner. The clear script AH final acceptance cartouche of Asahel Hubbard. A fine example of an arsenal converted US Model 1816 Type III musket. {ANTIQUE}
