Lot Description
Connecticut Marked US Model 1822 (1816 Type II) Musket by Pomeroy
Mexican American War
.69 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat spring retained bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, detachable brass flash pan, walnut musket stock. Single shot muzzleloading flintlock musket with brass blade front sight, no rear sight, sling swivels and a button head ramrod with a dished face for elongated ball ammunition. Lock marked with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} over L. POMEROY forward of the cock and in two vertical lines at the tail 1828/US. Tang with matching 1828 date, breech with US/JM/P inspection marks. Top of beech also marked CONN for ownership by the State of Connecticut. Counterpane with script JM cartouche, the mark of arsenal sub-inspector Justin Murphy. Lock remains in original flint with matching mating marks throughout on the various small parts, even the top jaw. Touchhole is slightly oversized and eroded but remains correctly tapered and angled and is well located in the pan. A solid example of an original flint US Model 1822 (1816 Type II) Musket. {ANTIQUE}
