Lot Description
WWII Era A2 Leather Flight Jacket with Painted Yuma Army Airfield Gunnery School Patch
World War II
Leather A2 pattern flight jacket with brown cotton liner and no intact tags. Sleeve measures 24" from shoulder to cuff. 15" chest width. 22.5" length. Jacket marked D4226 under the collar. Affixed to the left breast is a painted patch for the Yuma Army Air Field with the iconic Disney pattern logo depicting a furious coyote wielding a machine gun above the war cry Y-A-A-F!, handily translated to YUMA ARMY AIR FIELD in red text along the border. Yuma's Airfield began as a simple dirt field back in the 1920s, but was offered to the United States Government for use during World War II. Graduating its first classes in 1943, the field served as an advanced training ground for a variety of aircraft including multi-engine B-17 pattern and single engine T-6 trainers. After the war, the field served as a Marine Station, Air Force Base, and even an International Airport.
