Lot Description
Rare Track Luger Knife with Staghorn Grip Scales
3" blade length. 7.5" overall with blade extended. Single edge drop point folding knife with brass bolsters mounting Cocobolo grip scales and featuring a unique locking back inspired by the toggle action of the Luger pistol. Left ricasso struck LUGER/#80 of 100. Only 27 of these knives were manufactured with the staghorn grips, with the remaining production mounting Cocobolo panels.
Designed for Track by machinist Carl Crumbley, the Luger knife was intended to provide the company with an instantly recognizable design that was practical, and appealed to firearms enthusiasts with an affinity for the famed Luger pistol. Ironically, the knife fell victim to the same problem that eventually doomed the pistol that inspired it, as the toggle lock was too expensive to produce at a reasonable price. Consequently, production ceased after a production run of 103.
