Lot Description

Albanian Tanchika Miquelet Musket Signed Lazari Cominaz

.65 caliber. 55.325" multi-stage octagon to round barrel with slightly flared muzzle. NSN. Bright finish, steel furniture, hardwood and chiseled steel stock with traditional fish tail butt. Single shot miquelet flint lock muzzleloading smoothbore musket with fixed rear sight, bead front sight, sling ring on counterpane and sling swivel on obverse of forend. Barrel marked LAZARI COMINAZ and with a P. Highly decorated and chiseled steel stock and mountings. Chiseled ramrod is functional and can be removed from the channel. While the Cominazzo family of Brescia, Italy was one of the most famous gun making families of the 17th century, their reputation for making both fine firearms and very high quality barrels meant that their name was widely forged and copied on firearms of the period. In the Ottoman world, the reputation remained in place to the point that the name was still being applied in the 19th century. Despite the fact that the barrel is not likely to be of real Italian origin, the quality of this Tanchika is head and shoulders higher than most examples today and this is a really lovely example in nice condition. A nearly identical example, singed in the same way is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum The exceptional overall length of 68" means that extra shipping charges will apply.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
