Lot Description
Untouched US Model 1816 Type I Flintlock Musket by Wickham
Mexican American War
.69 caliber. 42" barrel. NSN. Heavily oxidized metal, iron furniture, full-length musket stock with three flat, spring retained barrel bands. Single shot flintlock muzzleloading smoothbore musket with no rear sight, brass blade front sight, missing the sling swivels and with a correct style button head ramrod. Lock marked M.T. WICKHAM in an arc over PHILA. Look remains in original flint. Endoscopic evaluation of the interior of the breech shows no signs of welding or reconversion. Touchhole is overly large, possibly due to erosion, and slightly forward of center. Breech with weak F and P inspection marks and counterpane with a V/GF inspection, the mark of arsenal sub-inspector George Flegel. Toe of stock with indistinct gang stamp markings that are probably New Jersey militia county ownership marks.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
