Lot Description

Scottish Revival All Metal Percussion Belt Pistol by Blanch & Sons

48-Bore (.465). 6.5" three-stage octagon to round to dodecagon barrel, metal grip. German silver frame, blued barrel. Single shot percussion muzzleloading smooth bore all metal pistol with front action percussion lock, belt hook, frame notch rear sight, no front sight and steel ramrod. Lightly engraved lock marked BLANCH & SON LONDON under the bolster. Frame profusely engraved with flowing foliate motifs and Celtic knot patterns. Butt cap with decorative "jewel" that is loose and not currently attached to the pistol, with a foil lining inside the recess to enhance the decorative effect. Blanch & Son, operated circa 1848-1899 as a partnership between John Blanch, who worked circa 1800-1848 and his son William. John Blanch had been apprenticed to Mortimer to learn the trade. {ANTIQUE}
