Lot Description
Remington-Rider Double Action Percussion New Model Belt Revolver with Fluted Cylinder
.36 caliber. 6.5" octagonal barrel. SN: 557. Blued finish, brass triggerguard, two-piece smooth walnut grips. Double action percussion revolver with six-chambered fluted cylinder, frame groove rear sight and dovetailed German silver cone front sight. Two-line Remington address and patent barrel markings nearly illegible due to the refinishing. Matching serial numbers under barrel, on lower left of grip frame under grips and inside both grips. No serial number is visible on the rear face of the cylinder. These far from successful Remington double action percussion revolvers were produced circa 1863-1873, with only between 3,000 and 5,000 believed to have been made. The majority of the production was apparently either altered to cartridge or actually produced as cartridge revolvers. Only a few hundred of the earliest percussion revolvers were produced with fluted cylinders, making them particularly scarce and desirable. {ANTIQUE}
