Lot Description

**Springfield Model 1903 Rifle, 1917 dated Barrel and Receiver
World War I

.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 756628. Blued metal refinish mounting walnut straight wrist stock with full length upper forend and adjustable ladder rear notch and front blade sights, the latter mounting a sight protector. Bolt-action internal magazine fed repeating rifle charged with stripper clips. Receiver marking reads U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903. and the barrel SA/{Ordnance Bomb}/12-17. The receiver corresponds to late 1917 production. Stock shows a sanded and unevenly struck circle P mark to the wrist. Inspector's cartouche to left wrist appears to have been applied recently, and despite showing the period correct J.F.C. initials of James F. Coyle, the spacing of the periods is incorrect, and the mark far too crisp for a stock that has been lightly sanded. Receiver and the barrel forward of the rear sight have been drilled and tapped for optics mounting, and currently mount thread protector screws. Barrel is struck J60 at mid length below handguard. Butt void of tools. {C&R}
