Bolt action internal magazine fed repeating rifle charged with stripper clips. The receiver is marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903 with the serial number corresponding to an original production date of 1918. Item was rebarreled with the currently mounted example marked SA/{Ordnance Bomb}/8-38, indicating it was made in August of 1938. Barrel shows importer markings partially obscured by the bayonet lug. Stock shows no visible cartouches or circle P mark, and has been sanded. Right butt fitted with a brass plate reading SPRINGFIELD 1903 SERIAL NO. 897257/CAPTURED AT FALL OF BATAAN PI./9 APRIL 1942 RECOVERED IN JAPAN/APRIL 1991.
