Lot Description
**Springfield Model 1903 Rebarreled 1938, Attributed to the Battle of Bataan
World War I, World War II
.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 897257. Parkerized metal finish overall set in a walnut straight wrist stock with full length upper handguard and mounting adjustable rear ladder and front blade sights. Bolt action internal magazine fed repeating rifle charged with stripper clips. The receiver is marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903 with the serial number corresponding to an original production date of 1918. Item was rebarreled with the currently mounted example marked SA/{Ordnance Bomb}/8-38, indicating it was made in August of 1938. Barrel shows importer markings partially obscured by the bayonet lug. Stock shows no visible cartouches or circle P mark, and has been sanded. Right butt fitted with a brass plate reading SPRINGFIELD 1903 SERIAL NO. 897257/CAPTURED AT FALL OF BATAAN PI./9 APRIL 1942 RECOVERED IN JAPAN/APRIL 1991. RETURNED TO U.S. No further paperwork affirming this attribution is available. {C&R}
