US Model 1884 Springfield Trapdoor Type I Cadet Rifle
Spanish American War

.45-70. 29.5" barrel length. SN: 494925. Blued metal finish with tinned breechblock and lockplate mounting a walnut straight wrist stock with full length stock retained by two barrel bands. Single shot trapdoor action rifle mounting adjustable Buffington pattern rear notch and replaced pinned front blade sights. Item features a low-arch breechblock, springless firing pin, serrated trigger, three click action, two piece triggerguard with integrated sling loop, and stacking swivels to the upper barrel band. Breechblock is marked U.S./MODEL/1873, while the lockplate is marked {Spread Winged Eagle} followed by U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873. Left barrel shows V/P/{Eaglehead}/P marks along with additional R and I stamps. Wrist shows a circle P mark behind the tang with the left wrist showing the boxed SWP/1890 marking of inspector Samuel W. Porter. Both barrel bands are U stamped, and the buttplate additionally marked US. {ANTIQUE}
