3 volumes, 8vo. Early 20th century polished calf gilt, red and green morocco lettering-pieces gilt in 3, others gilt tooled, top edges gilt, others uncut (small stain on spine of vol.2, front joint repaired on vol.1). Provenance: Armorial bookplate.

FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM of the historical romance set in 15th-century Florence, originally published in 14 parts in Cornhill Magazine from July 1862 to August 1863. FIRST ISSUE with the absence of "second edition" on title-page. Baker & Ross A7.2; Sadleir 817.
