Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA] 10 tintypes, incl. pairs and groups of cowboys, some with female companions.

10 loose tintypes, approx. 3 3/4 x 2 3/8 in. or smaller, including:

Studio portrait of a group of four men posed in front of a painted studio backdrop featuring trees. Two of the men wear wide-brimmed hats while the other two rest their hats on their knees. The man standing at right wears a patterned scarf and holds an envelope in his hands. It has been suggested that one of the subjects may have been involved with the Wyoming Range War, but the lack of period identification or provenance makes this difficult to confirm. -- Standing portrait of a young cowboy wearing a wide-brimmed hat, with what may be a single-action revolver tucked into the Slim Jim holster on his belt. -- Portrait of five young men crammed together in a studio, each wearing a different style of hat. -- View of four men gathered around a table, with a plaid sheet or blanket hanging in the background. -- View of two men seated at a table, sharing a drink. -- Tintype housed in a paper mat showing a bearded fellow wearing tall boots, sitting casually beside a table upon which rests a bottle and glass. There appears to be a painting of a violin in the background. -- Standing view of a cowboy wearing a wide-brimmed hat and tall boots. -- 3 tintypes of men with female companions, including a portrait of one man comfortably posed between two young women, a portrait of a young, nervous-looking woman standing with her arm resting on the shoulder of the man seated at her side, and a woman wearing a bonnet and apron, holding a broom in one hand while resting her other hand on the shoulder of a man seated beside her.

Together, 10 tintypes.
