Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA]. 10 tintypes, incl. pairs of cowboys and other rough-and-tumble characters. 

10 loose tintypes, approx. 4 x 2 1/2 in. or smaller, including the following highlights:

Seated portrait of two men seated closely in a studio setting. The subject at right wears an infantry great coat and tall boots. The other subject also wears tall boots. -- Standing portrait of a bearded fellow wearing a striped shirt, with what appears to be a military officer's sash tied around his waist. -- Tintype showing one man seated while another stands at his side. Both men wear hats, suspenders, and leather boots. Modern label affixed to verso identifies the subjects as "Left, Daniel Hoover, 1848-1909, Right, John McGrove, 1850-1912, Both of Sunville." -- 7 portraits of pairs of cowboys and other characters posed together in studio settings, some seated, some standing. All of the subjects wear an assortment of wide-brimmed hats, and most also wear tall, leather boots.
