Lot Description

[MILITARY]. 6 cased images of military subjects incl. pre-war militia, US Navy, and European.

Quarter plate tintype full standing portrait of a young man in a make-shift studio wearing a tasseled smoking cap or fez, possibly that of a Zouave regiment. (Image somewhat dark; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case. -- Sixth plate tintype portrait of two seamen in uniform, the man to the viewer's left wearing drop front breeches. (Some scratching and wear to plate, clipped corners; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. Plate verso reads, "Taken At Jersey City," but this has been scratched out multiple times. -- Ninth plate ambrotype seated portrait of a militiaman in full uniform including 2-piece belt buckle, epaulettes, and a knight's head militia sword. His cap resting atop the table next to him bears letters "PCG," possibly some type of city guards. (Minor losses , very clear image overall; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. -- Ninth plate daguerreotype of a middle aged likely British officer in dress uniform including gold-highlighted epaulettes, breast plate, buttons, and collar. (Some chemical splotching/deterioration, tarnishing to edges.) Housed in a flip-top maroon leatherette case. -- And 2 other images including a sixth plate ambrotype and a ninth plate ambrotype. -- Together, 6 cased images of military or navy interest.
