Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. Collection of photographs and objects incl. soldier's ID stencil.

Ninth plate ambrotype portrait of a musician posed holding his horn and with what appears to be his cap on the table next to him. (Cracking and loss to emulsion, discoloration, haloing and imperfections throughout; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, surface wear/loss). -- CDV vignetted portrait of a soldier with a rather angry expression on his face. He wears shoulder straps, though his rank is indiscernible in the image. (CDV with toning, soiling, and clipped into an octagonal shape.) Loosely housed under cover glass and surrounded by (but not sealed to) preserver. -- Gem-sized tintype portrait of a young soldier wearing a frock coat and kepi or forage cap. (Crackling, spotting, creasing throughout.) Housed under a brass mat with spotting. -- Brass ID stencil for "Lewis Reder" (soiling, discoloration, denting). An HDS search for a "Lewis Reder" on either side of the war returned no results. -- A 3-tier Union Veteran Association of Maryland badge featuring the flag of Maryland with text reading "Appomattox" above and "Baltimore" below on obverse, and faded text reading "31st Re-Union / Union Veteran Association of Maryland / April 9, 1896" on reverse. Ribbon features an anchor with crossed indecipherable flags or banners below text reading "RECEPTION." -- And 5 other items including a pair of dice, a fragment of a breast plate, and others. Conditions vary, some poor. -- Together, a collection of items related to the Civil War era.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
