Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. 5 cased images of soldiers wearing frock coats, incl. possible New Hampshire private.

Ninth plate ambrotype portrait of an infantryman wearing a frock coat and forage cap. (Some spotting, wiping, otherwise a rather crisp image; unsealed.) Housed in a patriotic Union case (soiling, nicking). -- Ninth plate ambrotype portrait of a young infantry private wearing a frock coat and holding his cap in his lap. (A few surface imperfections, image a bit dark; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a bearded infantryman wearing a frock coat and an arresting expression. (Very crisp, clear image; unsealed.) Housed in a patriotic pressed paper case (surface wear) with scrap of paper bearing pencil inscription tentatively identifying the subjects as a New Hampshire infantryman, though we were unable to locate the signature the inscription references. -- And 2 others, including a sixth plate tintype and a ninth plate tintype. Conditions and housings vary. -- Together, 5 portraits of soldiers wearing frock coats.
