Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR] 5 cased tintypes of officers incl. company grade officer with 1850 Foot Officer's Sword.
Quarter plate full standing portrait of an infantry company grade officer holding an 1850 Foot Officer's Sword to one side. He wears difficult to discern shoulder straps and a sash around his waist signifying his rank. (Image overall rather dark, some surface scratching; unsealed.) Plate verso bears a 2-cent revenue stamp with inked initials "EBW." Housed in a pressed paper case. -- Sixth plate standing portrait of a young possible officer wearing what is likely a state jacket and having a slouch hat with what appears to be an officer's hat cord wrapped around it. His watch chain is just visible under his jacket and he poses with an arm resting on a studio railing prop next to him. (Creases/bends, dents to plate, else a clear image; unsealed.) Housed in a leatherette case (surface wear). -- Ninth plate portrait of an officer wearing a private purchase coat (few minor imperfections; sealed in paper sleeve.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface wear). -- And 2 others including a sixth plate and a ninth plate example. -- Together, 5 tintype portraits of Union officers.
