Lot Description

US Model 1884 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle
Indian Wars

.45-70. 32.5" barrel length. SN: 472900. Blued finish with case colored breechblock set in walnut straight wrist stock with full length upper handguard secured by two barrel bands. Single shot breechloading rifle mounting Buffington rear and front blade sights with low-arch breechblock, three click action, two piece triggerguard, and serrated trigger. Lockplate is struck with the {US Eagle} followed by US/SPRINGFIELD. Breechblock is struck U.S/MODEL/1884 while the left barrel is marked V/P/{Eaglehead} along with an additional P and A stamp. Both barrel bands are struck U, and the buttplate is marked US. Counterpane shows the boxed SWP/1889 cartouche of Samuel W. Porter. Wrist exhibits a circle P mark and U. Comes with a cleaning rod, and reproduction sling.
