Smith Carbine
American Civil War
.50 Cal. 21.675" barrel length. SN: 7191. Blued finish with case colored frame mounting walnut straight grip stock with half length upper handguard secured by a single barrel band. Single shot breechloading percussion carbine with octagonal to round barrel and saddle ring and bar to the left frame. Item mounts an adjustable ladder rear and replacement red painted N-SSA shooter front sights. Left frame is marked ADDRESS/POULTNEY & TRIMBLE./BALTIMORE. U.S.A. and SMITH'S PATENT/JUNE 23. 1857. Further marked AM'N M'CH'N WKS/SPRINGFIELD MASS. Left wrist is struck GP, and the left barrel flat shows B and P markings.
