Percussion Converted U.S. Model 1836 Pistol by Waters
American Civil War

.54 Cal. 8.5" barrel length. SN: NSN. Blued refinish to barrel with iron mountings set in walnut stocks with iron swivel ramrod and a brass conversion plate to the lock. Single-shot percussion smoothbore pistol featuring brass front blade and rear notch sights. Lockplate is signed forward of the hammer {Eaglehead/A. WATERS/MILBURY, MS./1837}. Barrel is marked U.S./IH/P. Scattered inspection initials include P to left barrel flat, A to the barrel band, and SA on the trigger plate. Counterpane shows the HKC cartouche of Henry K. Craig, the inspector of ordnance at the Watertown Arsenal at the time, and the LF marking of Lewis Foster Jr. This pistol features a drum type conversion and mounts a flat lightly engraved hammer.
