Lot Description
John Wurfflein Philadelphia 12 Gauge Percussion Shotgun in Case
12 Gauge. 30" blade length. SN: NSN. Browned Damascus steel barrels and gray finished locks set in a walnut straight wrist stock with splinter forend featuring bordered checkering to the wrist and forend. Double barrel side by side percussion shotgun featuring scroll engraved embellishments to the lockplates. Right lockplate is engraved JOHN WURFFLEIN with the left displaying PHILADELPHIA. An accompanying mark on the barrel rib reads JOHN WURFFLEIN PHILADELPHIA. Barrel maker mark reads E.BERNARD/CANNONIER DE PARIS with {Crown/EB} stamps below both breeches. Lockplates feature bank note scroll engraving of {Pointers in Thickets} below maker marks enclosed by spiral scroll engraving at the forward and rear ends of the lockplates. Hammers feature spiral scroll along the flanks with fishmouth engraving on each hammer. A gold escutcheon to the wrist is engraved Thomas B. Rayner/1867/Veterinary Surgeon. Item comes with a wood ramrod with brass tip, and comes in a wood box with green felt liner with nameplate to the lid marked S. Setchell.
