Lot of Three Ames Swords: Two 1840 NCO and an 1840 Musician
American Civil War
1.) Pair of Model 1840 NCO Swords. Items feature 32" blade lengths. 39.5" overall with scabbards and hilts. Straight single edged blades with single fullers, spearpoint tips, and mounting cast brass hilts with clamshell guards and knuckle bows. Items feature peened tangs and come in leather scabbards with brass throats and drags. One sword is struck US/1862 to the right ricasso and Made by/AMES MFG CO/CHICOPEE/MASS, and further is marked with a K initial to the knuckle bow. The other sword is marked U.S/T.K.I/1864 on the right ricasso and Made by/AMES MFG CO/CHICOPEE/MASS to the left. Knuckle bow of this example marked JH.
2.) Model 1840 Musician Sword. 28.125" blade length. 35.5" blade length. Straight single edged blade with spearpoint tip and single fullers mounting cast brass hilt with knuckle bow, plum shaped pommel, and a peened tang. Right ricasso marked US/AHK/1864 to the right side and Made by/AMES MFG CO/CHICOPEE/MASS to the left. Knuckle bow stamped G.W.C. Sword comes with a leather scabbard with brass throat and drag.
