Item is marked U.S/J.C.W./1865 on the right ricasso with maker mark to the left reading Made by/AMES MFG CO/CHICOPEE. Guard marked JW on the left side and JWW on the right, the latter letter having been double struck. Scabbard is steel with double hangers.
