Lot Description

Lot of Two Swords: U.S. M1850 Foot Officers by Horstmann and U.S. M1902 Officers

1.) US Model 1850 Foot Officers' Sword. 31" blade length. 36.5" overall with hilt. Slightly curved single edge sword with double fullers and spearpoint tip. Ricasso is marked HORSTMANN/& SONS on the left ricasso and PHILADELPHIA to the right. Blade etched with panoplies of arms and floral patterns. Item mounts a brass hilt with two piece knuckle bow, Turkshead pommel, and a peened tang. Grips are wrapped in shagreen with braided wire bindings. Guard features a pierced design to the right side with leaf patterns engraved into the brass.

2.) US Model 1902 Officers Sword. 29.875" blade length. 36" overall with scabbard and hilt. Curved single edged blade with etched embellishments mounting a nickel plated hilt with black painted grips, and nickel plated scabbard. Blade is without extant maker marks.
