Lot of Two: A U.S. Model 1840 NCO Sword and U.S. Model 1840 Musicians Sword
American Civil War
1.) US Model 1840 NCO Sword. 32.5" blade length. 38.5" overall with hilt. Straight single edged fullered blade with 6.5" false edge mounting a cast brass hilt with peened tang, one piece knuckle bow, and clamshell guard. Inner guard is turned down, and the back of the blade shows maker marking HORSTMANN'S/PHILA. Interior guard is marked VI on the right side of the blade and O/69 to the left. The initial K is scratched into the outer guard.
2.) US Model 1840 Musicians Sword. 28.2" blade length. 34.5" overall with hilt. Straight single edged fullered blade with 6.5" false edge mounting a cast brass guard with knuckle bow and a peened tang. Ricasso shows maker mark Made by/AMES MFG Co to the right and US/JF/1864. Back of the blade has inventory marking 250 applied by felt tip pen.
