Lot Description
Lot of Two Civil War Import Bayonets with Scabbards
American Civil War
1.) Austrian Model 1854 Lorenz Socket Bayonet & Scabbard. 19" quadrangle blade, 3" socket with helical mortise for a top stud and rotating locking ring. Austrian {*} acceptance mark on left of shank, rack number 11 on right. Bayonet is accompanied by a US Pattern 1857 "two-rivet" scabbard with an oval throat produced for use with Lorenz and Potsdam bayonets.
2.) Commercial British Pattern 1853 Enfield Socket Bayonet marked SALTER & CO on the ricasso. 18" blade with 16" face flute, 3" socket mortised for a top stud with locking ring. Bayonet is accompanied by a post-1861 brass mounted leather scabbard with a buckle secured frog really intended for the Pattern 1856 saber bayonet scabbard.
