Lot Description
Military Style Flap Holster for a Model 1860 Army Revolver - Possibly Southern
American Civil War
Unmarked military style flap holster that fits a Colt Model 1860 Army revolver with an 11.5" primary body length and a nominally 15" overall length with the flap closed. Flap with integral closure tab that engages a small brass finial. Sewn belt loop on reverse is nominally 1" wide and will only accommodate a belt roughly 1.5" in width, suggesting it was not intended for use with a typical military issue belt of the period, which is typically somewhat wider. Sewn only construction without rivet reinforcements and made of relatively thin split bridle leather with a surface finish that is a dark chocolate brown rather than black. A sewn in toe plug is in place of the bottom of the holster. A nice looking, mid-19th century military style "civilian" holster for a Colt Army that would look quite appropriate in a display of southern cavalry items.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
