Lot Description

Pair of Pommel Holsters for Colt Army or Navy Percussion Revolvers
American Civil War

12.5" long form fitting holster bodies with 2.25" brass caps at the end. Likely intended for use with either a Colt Model 1851 Navy or Model 1860 Army, although the use of pommel holsters had declined substantially by the time the Model 1860 Army entered service. An 1860 Army will fit in the holsters. Both holsters are missing their covering flaps, but the brass closure ball finials remain in place. The leather that attaches the two holsters is damaged and repaired with haphazard stitching. The two tack attachment straps remain intact, measuring 21" in length from the inner slot through which they pass and extending about 8.25" below the bottom of the holster bodies. No maker or retailer marks are visible. A well worn set of holsters for Colt revolvers that would be a nice addition to a pre-Civil War western cavalry display.
