Lot Description

English Brass Barreled Flintlock Pistol by Richards

.54 caliber. 7.875" pinned round barrel. SN: NSN. Brass barrel, steel lock and breech plug tang, brass furniture, full-length walnut stock. Single shot muzzleloading smoothbore flintlock pistol without sights. Slightly curved flat lock with pronounced teat at the rear is marked Richards in script. Lock with rounded unbridled and fenced iron pan and flat faceted swan neck cock. Lock lightly engraved at tail and with a boarder line. Breech with Tower private proof marks of a {CROWN/P} and a {CROWN/V}. Breech of barrel and nocksform lightly engraved. The number 2099 is stamped in the wood to the rear of the cock, typical of old style museum inventory numbers like those used long ago at the Smithsonian. Missing buttcap, includes an old replacement wood ramrod.
