Lot Description

Gold, ivory and hairwork mourning pin/pendant England or America, late 18th/early 19th century

Of marquise form, painted with female mourner beside raised black plinth and obelisk with fleur-de-lis and inscription, "In/ Memory /OF A/ Beloved/ MO/ THER," under reverse-painted willow tree, with additional inscription on surround, "Oh! that my Numbers like my tears could flow To paint her worth transcendent as my woe," beaded gold surround, the reverse set with hair and applied gold cipher, fitted with pin and loop attachment, seemingly unmarked.
