[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 4 daguerreotypes incl. a pair of portraits by ROOT'S GALLERY, Philadelphia.


2 quarter plate daguerreotypes, each with mat stamped, "Root's Gallery, 140 Chestnut St., Philada." The first shows an aged, bespectacled gentleman posed with a book in hand, with an accompanying period note stitched to the pad identifying the subject as "William Platt, Uncle of Susan B. Erwin Robinson" (image a bit cloudy/faint, minor tarnish to edges). The second shows an aged woman with a book in hand, with an accompanying period note stitched to the pad identifying the subject as "Aunt Mary Platt sister Uncle William Platt & Elizabeth Platt Erwin & Aunt of Susan B. Robinson." Each housed in a full case. -- Sixth plate daguerreotype of a balding gentleman, with an accompanying period note stitched to the pad identifying the subject as "Dr. William B. Smith, Husband of Alice P. Erwin & brother-in-law of Susan B. Robinson" (very fine clarity and contrast). Housed in full, push-button case. -- Sixth plate daguerreotype of a father posed with an infant seated in his lap. He wears an exceptionally large bowtie. With an accompanying period note stitched to the pad identifying the subject as "Jonas W. Leo and his son Harry M. Leo. Preserved in Mary's treasures. Husband & son of Emily Platt Robinson" (very fine clarity and contrast). Housed in full case. -- Together, 4 daguerreotypes of identified family members.
