Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] 10 images by photographers incl. McCLEES, VAN LOAN, UPTON, and J. SIDNEY MILLER.

Sixth plate seated daguerreotype portrait of a girl with a tired expression, her hair in braided strands. She wears a red-tinted necklace and a plaid dress. (Tarnishing to edges, few wipes, otherwise very clear image; reglazed and resealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. Mat stamped "DAVIS." -- Quarter plate seated daguerreotype portrait of a woman wearing a dark silk or satin plaid dress and a cameo brooch, having a book on the table next to her. (Image with slightly soft focus in areas, some spots and scratches throughout, oxidation to mat, no preserver present; resealed.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case. Satin pad ink stamped "By J. E. Lcowkood [sic])." -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a girl with her hair worn partly up, the remaining strands curled. (Tarnishing to edges, spotting, weeping.) Housed in a leatherette case. Mat stamped "VAN LOAN." -- And 7 others, including 2 quarter plate daguerreotype portraits by KEENAN of Philadelphia and LAWRENCE, 4 sixth plate daguerreotype portraits by UPTON, MCCARGO, MCCLEES, and BRADLEY'S GALLERY, and one sixth plate ambrotype by J. SIDNEY MILLER of Nashua, NH. Some without full cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 10 images with photographer's credit.
