Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Daguerreotype possibly feat. Charles Goodyear, [with:] 3 images of same woman.

Ninth plate oval daguerreotype portrait of a gentleman bearing a striking resemblance to American chemist, Charles Goodyear (1800-1860). (Light tarnishing to edges, spotting, crisp image; original seals). Housed in an oval velvet case with mother-of-pearl and metal inlay (losses to hinge, wear).

[With:] 3 images featuring the same woman, including a sixth plate daguerreotype of a woman holding a small child (rubbing, fading, some scratching; resealed); a ninth plate tintype of the same woman and child (image fairly faded, darkened; unsealed); and CDV vignetted bust portrait of the same woman by A.S. Johnson, Waupun, WI (wear, soiling, corners clipped). CDV verso inscriptions identifiy subject as "Julielma M. Grenell Mosher" (1824-1868) and the baby featured in the other two images as her son, Orville.

Early Photography Collection of Jules Martino, Silverton, Oregon
