Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 4 daguerreotype and ambrotype portraits of subjects with images.
Quarter plate landscape-oriented group portrait featuring an elderly man with what are presumably his two granddaughters. Both the man and one of the girls hold what appear to be cased images in their hands. (Tarnishing along edge, some wipe marks and stray surface imperfections throughout; resealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. -- Quarter plate relievo ambrotype portrait of an elderly woman wearing a black mantilla and holding onto a large cased image. The tablecloth under her arm is lightly hand-tinted. (Some loss to image visible in portrait through subject's black clothing; resealed.) Housed in a Union case (soiling). -- HART, A.P., artist. Sixth plate seated portrait of a lovely young woman wearing a portrait brooch featuring what appears to be the likeness of a bearded man. Velvet pad stamped for A.P. Hart of Elmira, NY. (Tarnishing along edge, no preserver present; resealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. -- And one other sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a young woman holding a cased image. -- Together, 4 portraits featuring subjects with images.
