Lot Description

*Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield Reissue with Bulged Barrel

.45 S&W. 7" barrel length. SN: GWS0827. Blued metal finish with color case hardened small parts mounting smooth walnut grips. Single-action top break six-shot auto-ejector revolver patterned after the original Model 3 Schofield revolver. Item features a pinned front blade and latch rear notch sights atop a full length fluted barrel rib. The left grip panel displays the four letter JFEC cartouche of Lieutenant J.F.E. Chamberlain. Serial number prefix GWS stands for George W. Schofield, whose modifications to the earlier Model 3 produced this pattern. Further markings include .45 S & W caliber to left barrel with the barrel lug struck with two-line address and patent mark reading SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT. JAN. 17TH/& 24TH 65. JULY 11TH 65. AUG. 24TH 69. JULY 25TH 71. Right barrel lug is marked SCHOFIELD'S PAT. APR. 22D 1873, and the butt displays US marking perpendicular to the serial number. Finally, the front sight blade is marked on the left side Performance Center/2000 with Mod. 3 Schofield/1875 appearing on the right.

WARNING: Barrel is bulged approximately 1" from the muzzle rendering the revolver unsafe to fire.
