Lot Description
[CARSON, Christopher "Kit" (1809-1868)]. BRADY, Mathew (1822-1896). CDV of Christopher "Kit" Carson. New York: E & H.T. Anthony, ca early 1860s.
2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in. CDV on cardstock mount (toning, fading, soiling, occasional spotting to print; soiling, edge and corner wear to mount). A vignetted bust-length portrait of Kit Carson. Image and mount ink inscribed "Genl. Kit. Carson, 'Rocky Mountain' Hunter." Brady/Anthony imprint and additional ink inscription on verso.
Christopher "Kit" Carson, a noted trapper, guide, and Indian Agent, commanded campaigns against the Apache, Comanche, and Navajo, most of whom surrendered to him in 1863, forcing nearly 8,000 on the "Long Walk" of 300 miles from Arizona to Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
