[POLITICS]. Horace Greeley & Benjamin Gratz Brown jugate ferrotype. Ca 1872.
17 mm. dia. (including rim) jugate button featuring ferrotype of Horace Greeley and B. Gratz Brown (scratching to image, varied patination to rim and button verso). The candidates' bust portraits are featured next to one another, Greeley being on the left and Brown being on the right.
Horace Greeley ran for president in 1872 against Ulysses S. Grant. Greeley and his running mate, Missouri Governor Benjamin Gratz Brown, were defeated by the incumbent Republican.
