Lot Description
[HARRISON, William Henry (1773-1841)]. A group of 5 items, highlighted by 4 silk campaign and memorial ribbons.
Silk ribbon bearing a wreath enclosed bust of Harrison and two framed portraits of Washington and Lafayette. Above is a beautiful maiden with an inscription underneath stating, "In Honor Of the Founders and Defenders of American Independence. July 4th 1840." Below is a cabin scene with a farmer tilling his field and a US flag waving in a gentle breeze. Matted and framed (unexamined out of frame). -- Silk ribbon with caption, "Major General William Henry Harrison / Hero of Tippecanoe / Fort Meigs / and Thames." Featuring bust of Harrison near center, a man on horseback leading his troops above, and a log cabin with flag in lower portion. Cincinnati, OH: Doolittle and Munson, engravers (toning and soiling, staining to ribbon, frayed edges). -- Silk mourning ribbon bearing Harrison's bust, date of inauguration, and birth and death dates, with an image of a fire truck and "Fire Department" printed below. Included is a printed biography on reverse side of the ribbon (some toning, frayed edges). -- Silk mourning ribbon featuring portrait of Harrison, including his birth and death dates, as well as his "last words as president" (frayed edges). -- Together, 4 printed silk ribbons, 3 1/2 x 8 1/2 in., or smaller.
[With:] Spirit of '76. Nashville, TN: 19 August 1840. No. 23. Featuring bust portrait at top, presumably of Harrison, surrounded by patriotic designs, incl. a "Harrison & Tyler" US flag, and log cabin (Disbound, some chipping to edges, toning, occasional spotting). 16pp., featuring front page article entitled, "James K. Polk's Treachery Towards Judge White - His Persecution and Defamation of that Venerable Senator."
